Tornado Safety
Tornadoes cause heavy loss of life and property damage throughout much of the United States. Most schools and other public buildings include areas that offer some protection from this danger, and building administrators should know the locations of these areas.
We have prepared a School Safety Tornado Brochure that we distribute to schools in our spring severe weather mailing. We have additional planning information in our Guide to Developing a Tornado Emergency Plan for Schools.
The National Weather Service, FEMA, and the American Red Cross have a Tornado Preparedness Guide that describes the formation and characteristics of tornadoes and how to prepare and plan for a tornado.
